Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from the r/homelab community

Why CAT6A instead of CAT6?

CAT6A supports 10Gbps at full 100m distances with better alien crosstalk protection. CAT6 only guarantees 10Gbps at 55m. For a few dollars more per drop, you're future-proofed for the next 20+ years.

Do I really need 10Gbps?

Maybe not today. But NAS transfers, VM migrations, backups, and 4K streaming add up. If you're pulling cables through walls, do it once and do it right. Your future self will thank you.

Can you work in historical homes?

This is our specialty. We use LIDAR scanning to create Revit models that reveal candidate routing channels hidden in older construction. This lets us run cables with minimal disturbance to your home's historical character.

How do you minimize wall damage?

Our LIDAR-based approach identifies existing cavities, chases, and pathways in your walls before we cut anything. We find the routes that require the least disruption - often using spaces that builders left behind decades ago.

Do you terminate to my patch panel?

Yes. We do proper keystone jack terminations to your patch panel with a consistent labeling scheme. We can also supply and install the patch panel and rack if needed.

What documentation do I get?

A Revit model of your home's surfaces with cable routes, Fluke test results for every drop, and photos. You'll have a complete record of your infrastructure for future reference.
